Subway Surf Series Heads to Phillip Island

The top junior age surfers from around the country will converge on Phillip Island this weekend for the fourth stop of the Subway® Surf Series Pro Junior events, sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL).

Surfers from Australia and New Zealand will compete at the two-day event with many of the incredible waves on Phillip Island open for use across the weekend.

Local surfer Joe Van Dijk is in his final year of Pro Junior events and will be looking to make an impact at his home breaks.

Joe has been travelling the east coast of Australia competing in the Surfing NSW Pro Surf Series as well as Subway(R) Surf Series and will be coming home for the first time in two months.

A stacked draw of over 70 competitors will see Avoca Subway® Surf Series champion Ethan Ewing compete, along with Billy Harrison, Tully Wylie and Reef Hazlewood.

Kobie Enright will be making the journey down to Phillip Island after a convincing win at the Avoca Subway® Surf Series event in February.

She will be met by Victoria's India Robinson and Sophie Fletcher who have strong knowledge of the waves around Phillip Island.

Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson, is excited to have Subway Restaurants support junior surfing in Australia through the well-attended Series.

"A strong junior pathway is critical for surfers to continue to develop their skills, and to offer this all around Australia. It is great to have SUBWAY on board to help strengthen that pathway," Robertson said. "I am excited to see the talent improve with the new Pro Junior events."

SUBWAY Marketing Manager Lara Corbiere was delighted to continue to support junior surfing in its new-look competition.

"SUBWAY is committed to healthy active living, and our aim for the Subway® Surf Series is to help fuel junior surfers to go achieve their dreams. Our new association with the WSL will do just that and we can't wait to see the amazing talent from the groms," Corbiere said.

The WSL sanctioned Subway® Pro Junior events, which includes 18 and under men's and women's divisions, form part of the 2016 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title, at the WSL World Junior Championships in early 2017.

The Subway® Surf Series is proudly supported by WSL, Surfing Australia and Billabong.
